BARBARA HAYES FEGAN

“BUNNY”

Barbara Hayes Fegan, 82, a lifelong area resident, died peacefully in her home on Thursday, July 28, 2016, surrounded by her loving family.  Mrs. Fegan was born in Washington, DC and grew up in Chevy Chase, MD.  She attended Blessed Sacrament School, Georgetown Visitation Convent and the University of Maryland.  She later moved to North Bethesda, MD., where she sang in two choirs and was a cantor at Holy Cross Church.  She was also a member of The Rockville Community Chorus and The Rockville Singers.  She occasionally sang for the residents at Carriage Hill Home in Bethesda, and was a guest reader for the kindergarten class at Holy Cross School.  Mrs. Fegan was a co-founder of the Holy Cross Lunch Bunch, and had been a member of the former Holy Cross Players Theater Group, as well as a school volunteer.

Survivors include her husband James of 59 years, three daughters, Sandra Falatko, Linda Spiker, Sharon Giuliani, two sons, James G. Fegan, Jr. and Michael C. Fegan, 24 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. She is also survived by one brother, Charles David Hayes, and one sister, Joan Hayes Custalow.

Relatives and friends may call at Holy Cross Church, 4900 Strathmore Avenue, Garrett Park, MD, on Monday, August 1, beginning at 9:30 a.m. where Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m.  Interment Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Of Silver Spring, MD, departed this life on Tuesday, July 26, 2016. Born in McAlpin, WV, Ann came to Washington, DC in 1943. Her career with the U.S. Department of the Navy ended with her retirement in 1980, after 33 years of service. Her marriage to Harry I. “Jim” Goodwin ended in divorce. She is survived by her daughter, Susan L. Goodwin and her son-in-law, Charles T. Perin. Services and interment private. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

On Thursday, July 14, 2016, of Galion, OH, formerly of Silver Spring, MD. Beloved husband of the late Elizabeth S. Leone; father of Charles Leone of South Bend, IN, Elizabeth Leone (Rene Cisneros) of Fresno, CA, Peter (Diane Grieg) Leone of Rockville, MD, Frank (Loida) Leone of Sterling, KS, Joseph (Barbara Berns) Leone of Cedar Rapids, IA, Larry (Beth) Leone of Galion, OH and Lucy (Brian) Clark of Medford Lakes, NJ. Also survived by 21 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by twin infant sons and brothers Frank Leone and Peter Leone. A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Nativity Catholic Church on Saturday, July 30, at 10:30 a.m. Graveside Service at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 13801 Georgia Avenue, Silver Spring, MD, on Saturday, July 30, 2016 at 2 pm.

On Saturday, July 23, 2016, Francis X. Hartman of Silver Spring, MD. Beloved husband of the late Jean R. Hartman; father of Michael Hartman (Andrea Baridon), Kathleen Townley (Joseph), and Christopher Hartman; grandfather of Kayleen, Christina, Bethany, and Nicholas Townley; predeceased by his brother Louis Hartman and sister Patricia Day. A lifelong Washingtonian, Fran served in the U.S. Army during World War II, and fought in the Battle of the Bulge. He later worked as a Federal government accountant, with many years at the State Department and its Agency for International Development. During his happy and lengthy retirement, he enjoyed playing competitive duplicate bridge, attending musical performances, and watching Washington baseball and football.  Relatives and friends may call at Collins Funeral Home, 500 University Blvd. West, Silver Spring, MD on Sunday, July 31 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Church of the Resurrection at Riderwood Village on Monday, August 1, at 10:30 a.m. Interment at Gate of Heaven Cemetery. 1929-2016

Bill departed this life suddenly and unexpectedly on July 3, 2016. A resident of Silver Spring, Maryland since 1967, he was born on March 1, 1929 in Chicago, Illinois and was the eldest of three children. Beloved husband of Isobel Ruth Kaupert, loving father of Andrew Kaupert and Jennifer Johnsen, he is survived by his wife of 52 years, his children, grandchildren, and two sisters.

Bill graduated with a bachelor’s degree in English Literature from Northwestern University, a Master’s degree in English Education from George Washington University, and joined the Peace Corps in 1962 serving in Colombia, South America where Ruth joined him and they were married. He was a Washington, D.C. Public School teacher for 35 years, and continued to work teaching at The Huntington Learning Center until his passing. Bill was a devoted and respected member of his church and community, great teacher, mentor and friend.

Committal service and interment will be held at the historic Saint Paul’s Episcopal Church and Rock Creek Cemetery, 201 Allison St. NW, Washington, D.C. 20011 on Friday July 29, 2016 at 1 p.m. Memorial service will be held at Christ Congregational Church, 9525 Colesville Rd., Silver Spring, MD 20901 on Saturday July 30, 2016 at 2 p.m. He will be greatly missed by his family and many friends. He is at peace and in our hearts forever. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in his name to Christ Congregational Church or St. Paul’s Episcopal Church.
